January 8, 1945 –  November 24, 2017  WHITESBORO, TX – Celebration of Life Services will be held for Dr. Robert (Bob) Drew Bard, 72, on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Meador Funeral Home Chapel. There will not be visitation services.Dr. Bard passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017, in Whitesboro, Texas.
Bob was born on January 8, 1945, in Sistersville, Mercer County, West Virginia, to Harry Earl and Margaret Lucille (Mercer) Bard. He graduated from Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1962. Bob completed his undergraduate studies at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was active in ROTC at both Linsly and West Virginia University. In 1965, Bob was accepted by the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, completing the four year program and graduating in 1969 with his Doctor of Optometry degree. On August 27, 1966, he married Judith (Judy) Harrington in Bluefield, West Virginia. Bob served in the U. S. Army for two years at Fort Lee, Virginia, as a Captain, providing eye care as an Optometrist. Following his military discharge, he began his private Optometry practice in 1971. He was a member of the American Academy of Optometry as well as a member of the Ocular Nutrition Society. Bob took great pride in providing eye care to many needy people as he joined in several missions to Mexico and Nicaragua.
Bob believed in having a strong work ethic and living a healthy lifestyle. He loved ranching and organic farming. A favorite part of his life was having his grandchildren visit him at the ranch where he taught them about agriculture and farming. He so enjoyed helping them gather the eggs, feed the animals and take them for rides on the tractor. He was avid in learning all aspects of healthy living and meeting new people. Bob always enjoyed sharing his goals and values with others. He was a very down- to- earth man who shared his optimism with all those around him. He was of the Episcopalian faith.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Bard, of Whitesboro; son, Mike Bard, and wife, Eybeth, of Conroe, TX; son, Kevin Bard, and wife, Jennifer, of Highland Village, TX; grandsons: Jonathan Meza, Joshua Bard, Blake Perez and Logan Bard; granddaughter, MacKenzie Bard; sister, Margaret B. Johnson of Houston, TX; special family friend and ranch manager, Larry Springs, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Margaret Bard.
