Richard Maran Smith, 77 of Gainesville passed away at his home in Gainesville, Texas on November 19, 2022.  He was born on November 21, 1945, in Ft. Worth, Texas to James Elmer Smith, Jr. and Carrie Emma Nugent.  Richard married Jean Fipps in Denton, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Richard made his living as a Master Carpenter for over 50 years.  Richard loved model trains, watching westerns on TV and loved to cook.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jean Smith of 58 plus years of Gainesville, Texas; sons, Richard D. Smith, Sr. of Whitesboro, Texas and Gary Don Smith of Justin, Texas; grandchildren, Rebecca Pennycuff, R. D. Smith, Kristie Wright, Haley Smith and Jett Smith; great-grandchildren, Cash Wright, Sidney Wright & Josie Wright.

Preceded in death by his parents and son, Larry Gene Smith.

Visitation will be held before the service from 12:00-1:00 pm at the church.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Church of Latter-Day Saints, 1503 W. California Street, Gainesville, Texas.
