March 8, 1923 –  September 5, 2013  OPAL THOMPSONWHITESBORO ? Funeral services for Opal Thompson, 90, will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Ken Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro, Texas. Visitation services will be held prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the church. All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro, Texas.
She passed away on September 5, 2013 in Denison, Texas.
Opal Thompson was born on March 8, 1923 to John Franklin and Susie Atlas (Whatley) Daulton in Atoka, Oklahoma. She married Leroy Thompson on April 30, 1948 in Wardville, Oklahoma. They were married for 57 years until his passing. Opal was proud to be a ?Rosie the Riveter? during World War II, making C-47 airplanes. She loved dancing and traveling. She was a world-class fisherman, always ready to go fishing. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, Texas, and Women?s Society (United Methodist Women). She was a member of the Ashbury Sunday School Class. She was an adventurous woman, trying her hand at snorkeling at the age of 87. She loved life and loved her family dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice McKee, of Whitesboro, TX; son, Eddie Thompson and wife, Leigh, of Mannsville, OK; grandchildren: Jake McKee, Clint Thompson and wife, Megan, Elizabeth Gore and husband, Jimmy, and Erin Dobbins and husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren: Maddie Grace, Cole, Jett, Gavin and Opal; sisters: Ruth Moreland of Whitesboro, TX; and Sue Hayworth of Chico, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Susie Daulton; her husband, Leroy Thompson; brothers, Albert Daulton and Johnny Daulton; sisters: Aunetia Daulton and Martha Cunningham, and great-grandson, Adam Dobbins.
The Pallbearers will be Rick Simmons, Art McGuire, Bud Smith, Kyle Maynard, Ken Kniss, and Jerry Johnson.
