Joyleen Yvette Miler, 58, passed away at her home in Muenster, TX on November 10th, 2023.
Joy was born January 25, 1965, in New Braunfels, TX to Patricia Southerland and Thomas Miller. Most of her youth was spent in North Texas. She graduated from high school in Clay Center, Kansas in 1983 where she met Mike Fassler. They were married in 1984 and settled in Texas where they had three children; Christopher, Daniel and Joshua. They relocated to North Dakota, living on Minot Air Force Base and in 1997 she moved to Fargo.
There, she began her career with United Blood Services as a phlebotomist in 1998. While working at UBS Joy met Lisa and the two transferred with UBS to Cheyenne, WY in 2008. They married in 2013 in Moorhead, MN. Joy retired in 2019 as Donor Care Manager and in 2020 the two moved to Texas to be near Joy’s family.
Joy loved spending time with her sons, grandchildren, extended family and her friends. She loved her pets, crafts (all types of crafts), antiquing, going for long drives in the mountains and traveling to Puerto Rico. Joy had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and a beautiful smile. She was the light in our lives.
Joy was preceded in death by her son Daniel, father Tommy Miller, stepdad Dennis Southerland and her grandparents. She is survived by her wife Lisa, sons Chris (Katie), Josh and grandchildren, Anna, Caleb and Emma, mother, Patricia Southerland, siblings, Jannet Jackson, Brian Southerland, Rachel Miller-Decker, Brad Miller, Heather McKinney and many nieces and nephews.
Joy was an advocate for animal rescues and shelters. In lieu of cards or flowers please donate to your local rescue or shelter.
Lisa so sorry to hear of Joy’s passing. If you should need anything, please don’t hesitate to call. Our life partners are only on loan to us, sometimes too brief. May you find comfort in our savior Jesus Christ. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
So sorry, I know she will be missed, I enjoyed the times we could meet. Love to all!!
💔
My big sister, Joyleen, saved me when I was drowning in Harold & Lee Mercer’s pool in Houston, TX when I was a toddler observing their dog effortlessly doggy paddle and falsely thought I could do the same. I literally owe my life to her and had recently thanked her again for it. You can’t always say you know your last words to someone but in this case I could and told her I love her. I am thankful for how she has always gone above and beyond for people. Biggest hugs to Lisa, Chris, Katie & kids; Josh, Patricia, Janet et al.
Lisa, my heart goes to you. I first met Joylean while my sister Ann (Heather’s mother) was married to Tom Miller, and when we connected on FB a few years ago I liked her a lot. We talked about how we wished we all could have connected when y’all lived in WY and we lived in CO. I think we could have been friends even tho Debra and I are 15 yrs older. We had even been up in your area picking up dogs from shelters for rescues in Denver. Joyleen mentioned how y’all got your Lucy from National Mill Dog Rescue. Small world. Wish we could give you and the rest of Joy’s family hugs and our love.
Pat and family,
So very sorry to hear of your loss🌹
We are thinking her entire family, what a shock. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely, Kelly & Dianne Gonser
