Gordonville – Jean Mitchell, 71, of Gordonville, Texas passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro. The family will hold a memorial service for her at a later date.She was born on January 18, 1947 to Ira Franklin Van Zandt and Pearl Margurite Morgan. After graduation she went on to get her bachelor’s degree and married Grady Mitchell on December 9, 1966. Jean enjoyed fishing and hunting, but especially loved her role as a homemaker and caring for her family. She and Grady raised two daughters and two sons together. Jean was loved by all that knew her and was affectionately known in the community as “Momma” Jean.
Jean is survived by her husband, Grady Mitchell of Gordonville, Ira Franklin “Pokey” Mitchell and wife, Barbara of Gordonville, son, Kevin Gene Mitchell and wife, Tonya of Lovington, New Mexico, daughter Margo Hess and husband, Gary of Lindsay, daughter, Tonya Roper, and husband, James of Evans, Colorado, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ira and Margurite Van Zandt and sister Bonnie Sue Oakley.
