June 30, 1928 –  March 24, 2013  EDWIN D. ?Ed? HAYESWHITESBORO-Funeral services for Edwin ?Ed? Hayes, 84, will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. Visitation services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:30 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesboro, Texas.
Ed passed away on March 24, 2013 in Sherman, Texas.
Ed was born June 30, 1928 to William Albert Hayes and Ruth (Cherry) Hayes in Whitesboro, Texas. He married Billie Patsy Brown September 9, 1951 in Sherman, Texas. Ed and Pat were married 61 years and he was a lifelong resident of Whitesboro and Grayson County Texas. He graduated from WHS attending North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington and served in the Army National Guard; was a member of the Whitesboro Masonic Lodge, #263 AF & AM, and a member of First Baptist Church of Whitesboro from the age of 9 years. Ed served as a Deacon and Jr. High Sunday School Director for many years. Ed was a long time member of the Whitesboro Volunteer Fire Department and also played semi-pro baseball for the Sherman/Denison Twins. He and his wife, Pat, enjoyed the outdoors and camping and touring in their RV. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports; especially football, baseball and golf. Ed and his brother, Dub, owned and operated a retail pharmacy business in Whitesboro, retiring in 1978. Ed was a loving and supportive father and was ?Papa Ed? to his grandchildren up until the moment he went to be with the Lord! Ed loved spending time with his family and provided his three daughters with an excellent example of what a Christian father should be, and that influence went out to others beyond his family. Ed enjoyed horses and cattle and working at his farm.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Brown Hayes; three daughters: Jane Belcher and husband, Donald, of Sherman, Texas; Luanne Moore and husband, Charles, of Montgomery, Texas; and Susan Hall and husband, Murry, of Arlington, Texas; 8 Grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Helen Hayes, of Whitesboro; Niece, Diane Gibson, of Sherman, and Nephew, Bill Hayes, of Whitesboro and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Albert and Ruth Cherry Hayes; Brother, James W. Hayes; Nephew, James Edwin Hayes and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons: Adam Moore, Andy Hall, Luke Hall, Matt Wilcox, Randy Biddlecome, Chris Mullendore, and Will Cheek. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church.
