Agatha Lou Bell, “Polly” to her friends, passed away on December 12, 2023, in Wylie, Texas at the age of 90.   She was born in Overbrook, Oklahoma to Roy Omer Stubbs and Mable Stubbs.  Agatha married James Bell in Gainesville, Texas on January 28, 1948.  She attended Temple Baptist Church, played the piano occasionally, and also taught Sunday school.

Agatha held a PHD in child development and family living from TWU, and Master of Education and Bachelor of Science degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma University.  She served as a diagnostician for the learning disabled, a counselor for the Mental Health Service of Southern Oklahoma, and she was a public-school teacher in Thackerville for 11 years.  She also had been a consultant for the Headstart Program and a research consultant at TWU for the department of child development and family living. She was a Start-up Director at Janie Marshall school, in addition to being a nationally certified school psychologist.

In Oklahoma, she was a longtime 4-H Club leader and county 4-H Club advisor.  She helped develop plans for a day care center in Marietta and worked closely with parent groups for 13 years.  She was involved in many aspects of her church, from pianist-organist and choir director to making missionary trips to Panama City, Panama, Santiago, Chile and Cimmaron, New Mexico.

She was a member of the National Council of Family Relations, the Texas Council of Family Relations and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, as well as Delta Kappa Gamma honor society for teachers and Phi Delta Kappa education honor society. Agatha authored and co-authored several publications in her profession.

Agatha is survived by her son, James Daniel Bell & wife, Susan of Murphy, Texas; grandchildren, Jeffery Daniel Bell of Fairview, Texas, Natalie Easley of Spring, Texas, Chad Kilcrease of Ft. Worth, Texas; 3 great-grandchildren, Taylor Bell, Charlotte Easley & Wyatt Easley; several nieces and nephews.

She is Preceded in death by her husband, James Bell; daughter, Diane Kilcrease; siblings, Serena Vivian, Charles Wesley, Eugene Darrell, Omer Kenneth, Jerry Quienth and Rita Mae.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Meador Funeral Home, 1204 E. California Street, Gainesville, Texas.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, 12:00 pm also at Meador Funeral Home, Gainesville, Texas directed by David Whittington.  Interment to follow the service at McAlister Cemetery, Overbrook, Oklahoma.
