GORDONVILLE ? Memorial services for Samuel Joe Norton, 78, will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Mike Bentley and Rick Ramsey officiating. Visitation services will be held prior to the memorial services from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

He passed away in Denton, Texas on August 5, 2013.

Samuel was born on August 2, 1935 to William Henry and Julia Ann (Handley) Norton in Clay City, Illinois. He married Norma Rhoads on February 21, 1954 in Clay City, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his grandchildren, making sure he was at every game, every school event, and every opportunity to cheer them on. He was a member of the North Union Street Church of Christ in Whitesboro, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Norma June Norton, of Gordonville, TX; son, Alan Norton, and his wife, Denise, of Brenham, TX; daughter, Leah Daily, and her husband, Michael, of Krum, TX; and son: Neal Norton, and his wife, Janice, of Plano, TX; seven grandchildren: Lisa (Norton) Radowski, Jarod Norton, Andrea (Norton) Ryan, Cody Trim, David Trim, Sammantha Daily, and Hannah Daily; six great grandchildren: Benjamin, Lillian, Wyatt, Jameson, Shaun, and Kayley; sister, Jean Ann Foster, of Clay City, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Julia Norton; and his brothers, William Norton and James Norton.
