October 5, 1936 –  November 9, 2015  Memorial Services for Perry R. Newman, 79, of Whitesboro, will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Whitesboro, with Rev. Mike Flannagan officiating. He died Monday, November 9th at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Sherman, Texas surrounded by family and friends. Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro is in charge of arrangements. He was born to Paul and Juanita Newman, in Medicine Mound, Texas on October 5, 1936. The family moved to Lompoc, California as a young man. He graduated from Lompoc High School and was also in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1953 to 1957. He married Arvie Downs on his graduation day from high school. After 4 years in the Navy Reserve, he thought he would rather be in the air than on the water. He joined the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed it until his retirement in 1977. He derived so much satisfaction from his military career. After retiring, he rejoined the work force and worked for Lockheed and General Dynamics from 1979 to 1994. They then moved to the Texoma area where they were involved in the community. Arvie preceded Perry in death after 39 years of marriage. He later married Barbara Stubbs and they celebrated 19 years of marriage. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Whitesboro. He loved his church, his neighbors, and supporting his grandchildren and their activities. He was also very active in Keep Whitesboro Beautiful. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Whitesboro; son, Michael Newman and wife, Tammy of Evans, GA; daughters, Cynthia Lee of Ft. Worth, and Susan Davis of Edmond, OK; sister, Paula Meyers of Arizona City, AZ; grandchildren, Sarah, Dustin, Matthew, Amber, Tristen, Donovan, Katie, Kristi, Cyndi and Jeffrey; great grandchildren, Tyler, Nolan, Layne, Sean, Nick, Jack, Vivian, Kate, Luke and Lily, Ella, Kellan, Benjamin, Lena and Beau; 2 step-sons, Cary Stubbs and wife, Nikki of Tucson, AZ and Andy Stubbs and wife, Jerilynn of Austin; step-grand children, Alexis, Sarah, Anna, Rosie, Zack, Jacob and Erica. He was preceded in death by by his first wife, Arvie and father, Paul Newman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, Children’s Wing Building Fund, 124 Center St., Whitesboro, Texas 76273.
