November 8, 1932 –  May 27, 2017  GREENVILLE – Memorial Services for John Timothy Griffin, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville with Rev. John Kay officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro on June 10, 2017. John passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Cornerstone Hospital in Conroe.
He was born on November 8, 1932 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Rev. Noble Griffin and Pearl Maxson Griffin. John served nine years in the U.S. Air Force. He married Beverly Thiele on October 1, 1955 in Denison. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from East Texas State University. John was a former city councilman and mayor of Greenville. He was a member of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville, serving as a volunteer treasurer for 16 years. John worked as a Manager of Finance for Raytheon and traveled extensively during that time. He retired after working for the company 33 years. After retiring, John continued working for Raytheon as a consultant for 6 additional years. John greatly enjoyed traveling in his motor home. Over a twenty-year time period, they traveled throughout the United States and Canada.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Griffin of Greenville; a daughter, Sherrie Lofland of Rockwall; sons, Dr. John Griffin and wife, Mary of The Woodlands and Barry Griffin and wife, Lori of Greenville; seven grandchildren, William and wife, Lyndsey, Jennifer, Amanda, Andrew, Jordan, Nicole and Noah; four great-grandchildren, Liam, Liesl, Elias and Allison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.
