September 30, 1927 –  March 16, 2015  Harley Jess “Buck” Corey, of Whitesboro, Texas, passed away March 16, 2015. He was born in Bernadotte, Illinois on September 30, 1927. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis E. Corey; his children, Lisa Corey Greunke and her husband, Jim, of Colorado Springs, CO, Debra L. Corey and her husband, Bruce, of La Mesa, NM and Jeffrey S. Corey and his wife, Kelly, of Krum, TX; his grandchildren Garrett J. Greunke and his wife, Christa, of Flower Mound, TX, Kayla N. Corey, Brandon R. Corey, and Cameron S. Corey; and great grandchild Brityn K. Greunke. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse E. and Iva (Hunter) Corey, and his siblings Wilma Gottreau, Delbert Corey, and Mildred Yarbrough.
In 1947, at the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the Air Force. After completing his last 6 months of service in Japan 1949 as a first sergeant, he returned to enter college. Three years later, in 1952, he obtained a B.S. in Geology at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. In the fall of 1952, he joined the National Guard as an officer, and also entered the University of Nebraska to pursue a Master degree in Geology.

H.J. Corey was a 2nd Lieutenant as an Air Force pilot, and then flew for Braniff Airlines 30 years until he retired as a Captain in 1988. The Coreys then moved to Whitesboro, Texas in 1992 to enjoy their C5 ranch and raise cattle.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. Visitation will be at 11:00 and the service at 12:00. Private services then will be held at the burial site on the C5 Legacy Ranch Cemetery.
