May 30, 1920 –  December 11, 2010  DENTON – Funeral Services for Eleanor McWhorter, 90, will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Jon Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at the Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, Texas. Family visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 14, from 6 – 8 p.m. All services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.Florence Eleanor (Gilbert) McWhorter died December 11, 2010 in Denton, Texas.
She was born on May 30, 1920 to Harry Clinton and Geneva (Powell) Gilbert near Louisville, Kentucky. She married Herbert McWhorter on January 5, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky. Eleanor served on the Collinsville ISD School Board. She was a long-time employee of Dillard’s Department Store in the Golden Triangle Mall located in Denton, Texas. She enjoyed dancing at the VFW. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her three sons, John McWhorter of Denton, TX; James McWhorter of Denton, TX; and Joe McWhorter of Tioga, TX; and her daughter, Janet Havens of Denton, TX; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert McWhorter; her parents, Harry and Geneva Gilbert; an uncle and an aunt, Fred and Frances (Powell) Gilbert.
