June 10, 1924 –  January 7, 2014  COLLINSVILLE ? Funeral services for Edith Mae Watkins, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014, in the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, Texas with Pastor Jerry Davis and Minister Greg Parrent officiating. Graveside service will follow the services at Pilot Point Community Cemetery. All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. Visitation services will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 10, at the funeral home. All are welcome.Edith passed away on January 7, 2014 at her place, affectionately called ?The Farm?, where she resided for over 65 years. It is located just east of Collinsville.
She was born at home on June 10, 1924 in Tioga, Texas to her parents Edith Mae and Albert Eugene Hampton. She married Clarence Robert Watkins on March 16, 1942 in Bowie, Texas. He was serving in the military at the time. She served as a homemaker, farmer?s wife, and worked at Texas instruments in Quality Control, where she retired. Her final job was to provide short and long-term care to those who were elderly and in need of assistance.
Edith was at her best when she was doing for others. She was given to hospitality and entertained family, friends, and those without a place to go for the holidays for over 50 years. This has left a lasting impression on more than one generation and has touched the hearts of all who entered her home. Every family member or stranger who entered her home was greeted with a hug and left with a hug. In addition to her hospitality, she had a servant?s heart and one way she demonstrated this was by serving for over 23 years as a loving and caring Sunday School Teacher to many of the residents at the Collinsville Care Center. Her commitment was to her Lord and Savior and was an example to many.
Survivors include her oldest daughter, Carolyn Ann Walker, and husband, Phillip, of Lake Kiowa; son, Daniel Watkins and wife, Peggy, of Collinsville; son, Steve Watkins, of Sherman; and son-in-law, Pete Pilcher, of Collinsville; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. She has left a legacy of love and servitude for all to remember.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Eugene and Edith Mae Hampton; husband, Clarence Robert Watkins; daughter, Evelyn Pilcher; and two brothers: George and Houston Hampton.
