Whitesboro – Funeral services for Donald Ray Roberts Sr., 79, of Whitesboro, Texas will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Rick Carney. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM. He passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas with his family by his side.

Don was born on May 1, 1939 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Calvin and Gladys Mildred (Phillips) Roberts. After graduation from Dewar High School he served our country in the United States Army from June of 1962-June of 1964. Don worked at Oklahoma Natural Gas Company in Tulsa,OK for a few years then went to work at PPG Industries in Henryetta,Oklahoma then transferred to Wichita Falls,Texas. He later retired from PPG in 2001 after almost 37 years of service. He married the love of his life Judy Briscoe on July 11, 1969 in Dewar, Oklahoma and together they raised three wonderful children. He loved his family very much. Don “Grumpsie” held a special place in his heart for his granddaughter and all his grand-dogs. Don loved golf, fishing and kayaking; he enjoyed all sports and loved old westerns, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He always kept a garden at his home and loved home-grown tomatoes. He was always joking around with family and friends and loved pulling pranks on them. He was a witty man who never, ever met a stranger. He made everyone he came in contact with feel special and like a friend.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy of the home, son, Donald Ray Roberts Jr. of McKinney, son, Danny Jay Roberts of Whitesboro, daughter, Cynthia Denise Bice and husband, Chase of Anna, granddaughter, Cassie Dawn Bice, sister, Thelma Park of Checotah, OK, sisters-in-law, Jan McNew, Francis Roberts, JoAnn Briscoe, Jean Briscoe, Jennifer McKay and husband, Stan as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ma and Pap Roberts, brother, Cornell Roberts, and brothers-in-law, Billy “Bull” Briscoe,Charles McNew and Ray Park.
