July 13, 1936 –  October 7, 2017  WHITESBORO- Zelma Fred Sledge, 81, went peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017 with cookies by his side. He was born on July 13, 1936 to Fred “Hammer” and Patricia (Johnson) Sledge. He met Sarah Ann West in grade school and they married on April 23, 1955. Fred was known to all for his outgoing personality and he loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother, Jimmy and wife, Sarah.
Fred is survived by his 2 daughters, Susan Smith and husband, David and Carolyn Robertson and husband, Corky; grandchildren, Brandon Smith and wife, Meagen, Cory Smith and wife, Codi, Ginger Robertson, Alisha Hammons and husband, Jared, Brantley Robertson and Jan, and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Whitesboro with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.
