Thomas Wade Whitney,14, of Whitesboro, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 31,2023
Thomas was born on April 16, 2009, to Lesley Roberts and David Whitney.
Thomas loved everyone. He loved life and he loved adventure. Thomas always wanted to work and help others. He was 14 years old and already had 3 jobs, earning money was one of his favorite things to do, a step above that would be community service. He helped many people in the community by cleaning up yards, fixing lawn mowers, and many other things for free. If someone needed a hand, he was there to lend it. Thomas also kept the Whitesboro Police department busy with his many, many noise complaints, which turned out to be a kid in his garage with very loud Red Dirt Country music and the sound clanking tools on the concrete. Thomas became best friends with many of the officers this way. Thomas loved to build and rebuild anything that had a small motor. His dream was to become a mechanic, after joining the military of course. Thomas was an E1 LC3 Red River Sea Cadet and a part of the color guard. Most would say he was unlike any other 14-year-old boy, that he was an “old soul.”
When Thomas was not fixing something or helping others, he was most likely at the park with his friends with a case of Dr. Peppers. His idea of a good time included his friends and Dr. Pepper, sweet tea, Monster energy drinks, and of course music. He was smart, witty, and above all, hilarious.
Thomas Wade Whitney is survived by his mother, Lesley Roberts; father, David Whitney; sisters, Caita, and Bethany; brothers, Devin, Brett and Benjamin; grandparents, Les and Claudia Roberts, Holly and Billy Boone; aunt, Lauren Martin and husband, Bryan; as well as numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and community.
Preceded in death by his grandfather, David Randall “Randy” Whitney, great-grandfather, Thomas Carroll Roberts, great- grandparents, Lawrence H. and Alice Jean Gabert. great-grandmother, Yvonne Mills, great-great-grandmother, Maye Mills, and aunt, Capri Grimes.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Golden Family, Kaylee & Brian Collman, The Dagley Family, Jesse Davis & Family, Graham, Kason, Will, Brennan and the rest of Thomas’s dearest friends, his mentors: Paula, Glenn, Farley McLendon & her father, and Sebastian Petroll. Ricky Decker, who influenced him to be a mechanic and Gerald “Manny” Manzanares who helped him fine tune his skills. Lastly, the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kaci Reed, for all her efforts in response to this accident.
Funeral services honoring Thomas will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Mike Flanagan. Interment will follow at Sadler Cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
My heart breaks for your family. Praying the Lord will comfort you in your grief. Know that your family is loved and being prayed for.
I met this outstanding young man in San Angelo Texas when he was at one of my Sea Cadet Trainings. I was very impressed with him. Very squared away young man. He will be missed greatly. We saved him a spot at our upcoming Recruit Training event at North Fort Hood to Honor him.

I was Thomas’s first grade teacher. He was the sweetest little boy! He always had a smile on his face. And he loved to give me a hug when he came in the room. I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers go with your family.

I was saddened to hear of Thomas’ passing. He was one of the cadets I had gotten to know during my visits with the group. I appreciate all he did in service to his Sea Cadets and in preparation to serve his country. He was a good person and I am blessed to have known him. Thank you for sharing him with us.
My heart breaks for you and your family. To see how much that young boy affected his school classmates and friends gives me such joy. I’m so glad my boys had classes with him and got to know him and become his friend. I’m so sorry we never got the chance to meet but we are all praying for you and your family. Keep your faith and know that God will guide you and your family.
