Ronald Joe Blackwell, 77, of Gordonville, Texas was called to his eternal home on Saturday, December 7, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.

Ron was born on November 4, 1947 in Amarillo, Texas to Clive and Annie (Giles) Blackwell. He graduated from Tascosa high school in Amarillo and received his bachelor’s degree from Dallas Baptist University.  Ron married Carol Wilson in Grand Prairie on June 21, 1975.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gordonville and had served as a Deacon at South Park Baptist church in Grand Prairie, prior to moving to Gordonville.  Ron worked for over 30 years with Southwestern Bell Telecommunications as well as serving as the Chief of Police for Southmayd and working for Grayson County Sheriffs office.  He loved to volunteer his time and spent many years serving with the Boy Scouts of America, he volunteered with the Red Cross and with search and rescue.  Ron and Carol enjoyed the RV life for a time and were a part of the Good Sams RVing club.  He fixed and installed radios and was instrumental in getting a Repeater installed on the top of the water tower in the Gordonville area.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Blackwell of Gordonville; son, Benjamin Blackwell of Gordonville; and cousin, Danny Blackwell of Ingleside, TX.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Clive and Annie Blackwell, son, Clive Blackwell, his grandparents and aunt and uncle.

Pallbearers will be Chad McKee, Greg Tate. Keith Bruce, Kyle McKeen, Robert Dennis, John Wilson and Brandon Hughes.

Funeral services honoring Ron will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Charles Wilson, Rev. Robert Dennis and Rev. Rick Carney.  Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Gordonville.  A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
