Laurie Kay Grant Benefield was a pillar of strength, bravery, and unyielding love. She was born on April 26, 1967 in Pittsburg, Kansas, and passed away on November 22, 2024. Her unshakable faith, courage and fire for life made her loved and respected by all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, the strength of her powerful lessons will be forever etched in our hearts and lives.
Nothing seemed impossible for Laurie! To her there was no mountain she could not climb and no quest she could not conquer. She did everything with her whole heart and to the best of her ability. Her beautiful soul bled the purest form of a servant’s heart. Laurie’s selfless acts touched not only her own family, but the droves of friends and the surrogate children she helped raise. Laurie’s love was an endless well that poured over all. She saw the value in people and never missed an opportunity to shower love onto others through handmade gifts and thoughtful conversations.
Laurie was preceded in death by her grandparents Rev. Melvin and Kate Grant of Moore, Oklahoma and Lawrence and Laura Lair of Pittsburg, Kansas.
She is survived by her parents Gary and Rosetta Grant of Lake Kiowa, Texas; a loving husband of 38 years, Richard Benefield of Garland, Texas; her three children and their spouses: Kaleb and Willow Benefield, Megan and Nathan Mendenhall, Crystal Benefield and her fiancé, Eric Willis; her two brothers: Scott and Mita Grant of Frisco, Texas, Paul and Tarsha Grant of Lake Kiowa, Texas. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her precious memory will be cherished and held close until the day we meet again.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26th, at the Pathway Church of God in Sherman, Texas, with the Reverend Don Russell officiating. Viewing will be at 9:00 a.m. and services at 10:00 a.m. Laurie requested that she be laid to rest near her Grandpa, the Reverend Melvin Grant, at the Ulan Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma.
