Funeral services for Karen Ruth Phelps, 62, will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in Meador Funeral Home Chapel of Whitesboro, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Gordonville Cemetery. All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home. Visitation services will be held Tuesday, September 17, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
She passed away on September 14, 2013 in Gainesville, Texas.
Karen was born on February 18, 1951 to Boyd and Billie (Lehew) Hamilton in Dallas, Texas. She married Robert Phelps on April 12, 1971 in Sherman,Texas. She loved to pitch horseshoes. She was a member of the North Texas Ringers and the National Horseshoe Pitching Association.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Phelps, of Whitesboro, TX; sons: Clinton Dale Phelps, of Whitesboro, TX; and Clifton Joel Phelps, of Whitesboro, TX; daughter, Kayla Phelps, of Whitesboro, TX; grandchildren: Jonathan Allen Phelps, Tristan Nathan Phelps, Jacob Cash Phelps, and Jeffery Phelps; brothers: Jack Hamilton, Greg Hamilton, and Clark Hamilton and wife, Amy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Billie Hamilton; father, Boyd Hamilton; step-father, Earl Carney; and her brother, Mark Hamilton.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Phelps, Kenneth Phelps, Ronny Tyler, Billy Tyler, Ricky Doty, and Roger Flinn.
