Joe Lee Dell Chancellor, 81, of Whitesboro, passed into his eternal life on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Whitesboro Health and Rehab.
Joe was born on May 29, 1938 in Shanks, TX to R.U. and Ora (Phillips) Chancellor. He married Nancy Murphy on February 15, 1958 in Whitesboro, TX and was married to her for 53 years prior to her passing in 2011. Joe worked as a bricklayer for Wayne Emory for over 50 years. He was an avid Cowboys fan, loved to garden and make jelly for his family and neighbors. Joe enjoyed watching westerns and taking walks to see “Momma”, camping, fishing and just riding around on back roads looking at the countryside.
He is survived by son, Joe Chancellor Jr. and wife, Debbie of Gordonville, daughter, Janet Odom and husband, James of Denison, daughter, Judy Taylor and husband, Jackie of Lannius, daughter, Janie Lewis and husband, Kevin of Gordonville, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and a host of other loving family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, R.U. Chancellor and Ora Whitaker, wife, Nancy Chancellor, brother, Sam Chancellor and beloved dog, Lucy.
Pallbearers will be Roger Skinner, Erick Wooten, Zach Taylor, Collin Taylor, Michael, Scott and Steven Emory, and Jeremy Stanley. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Emory and Bill Bennett.
Graveside services for Joe will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Terry Barnett. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1 ,2019 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
