It is with deep love and remembrance that we celebrate the life of Elizabeth Hughes, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

A proud charter member of Hillcrest Church of Christ, Elizabeth’s Christian faith was her foundation. Known for her elegance and a personality as sharp as it was charming, she brought a sparkle to every room with her wit, intelligence, and the twinkle in her eye. Her sense of humor, vibrant spirit, and occasional stubbornness made her unforgettable to all who knew her.

Born and raised in Gainesville, Texas, Elizabeth graduated high school and married Bob Hughes, her high school sweetheart, beginning a beautiful 64-year marriage. Together, they built a family centered on love and faith. She enjoyed a short career in bookkeeping at First State Bank, yet her most notable role was as a homemaker. In addition to raising her own three children, she treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially fond of road trips with them, creating lasting memories on trips to Arizona, Washington, and Palo Dura Canyon. She also found joy in competition paired with laughter, particularly in games like Wahoo, Mexican Train, Skipbo, and 42.

After a life richly lived, she joined her beloved husband Bob in heaven and is survived by her three children – daughter Barbara Bryant, son David Hughes and wife Susan Hughes and son John Hughes, grandchildren Amy Stewart and husband Chris, Amber Innerarity and husband Matt, Christopher Hughes, Valerie Hughes, Thomas Hughes and wife Madison, Deborah Hughes, William Hughes and partner Matt and great-grandchildren Bentley Hughes and Shane, Elizabeth and Calleigh Stewart and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 21st at 2pm Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with David Gray officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20th from 5-7pm at the funeral home.

Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed and remembered always.
