Carl Wesley Ploeger: A Life Well-Lived
Carl Ploeger, a man of quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and a gentle spirit, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 13, 2025. He was 86 years old. Born on November 18, 1938, in Robinson, Kansas to Gilbert S.C. & Hazel Ploeger. Carl’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life.
Carl’s early years were spent in Kansas developing a strong work ethic, working on the family farm, then attending the University of Kansas and becoming a life-long Jayhawk. It, was during this time at KU that he met the love of his life, Sandra. Their courtship was filled with laughter and long walks, a whirlwind romance, they married on April 7, 1966. Their marriage of almost 59 years was a beautiful example of enduring love and partnership.
Carl served his country with distinction as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. He approached every aspect of his life with the same dedication and commitment that he brought in his service to our Country. This dedication served him well throughout his life.
Carl’s professional life was marked by a strong sense of responsibility and leadership he learned on the farm and in the USMC. He approached his work with diligence and a commitment to excellence.
Carl’s true passion was his family. He was a devoted husband, to Sandra Ploeger, a brother to Julie Schwope, a loving father to son Andrew & wife Becky Ploeger, son Matthew & wife Aly Ploeger, & daughter Laura & husband Fred Garner, and a doting grandfather to Megan Ploeger, Emma Garland, Benjamin Ploeger, Elizabeth “Scotty” Ploeger, and Christian Garner. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was family dinners, holiday gatherings, or vacation trips. He was a constant source of support and guidance, always offering a listening ear, words of wisdom, or joke of the day. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took immense joy in watching them grow and learn.
Carl had a wide range of interests, such as raising mini horses, building model ships, and woodworking. He found joy and pride in these pursuits and shared his passion with others by crafting intricate wood treasures for his family.
Carl was a devout Catholic, and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, gentle nature, sense of humor, unwavering optimism, strong moral compass. He touched the lives of many with his genuine interest in, and willingness to help others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and devotion.
A visitation and rosary will be held on February 14, 2025, at 6:30 pm at Meador 1204 East California St., Gainesville, TX 76240, and a Funeral Mass will be held on February 15, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 825 North Weaver St., Gainesville, TX 76240.
Carl’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

We are very sorry to hear of Carl’s passing. He and Sandra were wonderful neighbors for a number of years. We will remember Carl for his kindness, his quick wit, and his delightful sense of humor. May he rest in peace
