Betty Jean (Hardin) Smith, 74, of Collinsville, Texas peacefully went home to Jesus on November 29, 2023.
Betty was born and raised in Dallas, Texas to Weldon Truman Hardin and Della Louise Hood. Betty was a nurse most of her career; she enjoyed the medical field and always enjoyed helping and caring for others. Betty was kindhearted and opened her home to many local kids that needed guidance, love, and stability. She showed kindness and love, by, when necessary, she showed “tough” love to bring out the best possible person in each.
Betty is survived by her lifelong “sweetie”, Lester Carroll Smith; they married 54 years ago in Irving, Texas. Betty is also survived by daughter, Shelly Yancey, son-in-law, Don Yancey; daughter, Tammie James, son-in-law, Devin James; and son, TC Smith.
Betty fell in love all over again when she had grandchildren. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Nicole Sullivan, Brook Freeman, Samantha Powell, Amanda Yancey, Shelby Yancey and Coby Riley, great-grandchildren, Tinsley Blake Ryan and Belle Elaine Freeman; sister, Barbara Nicoles and brother, Kenneth Hardin; along with many nieces and nephews.
Betty will join in heaven her daughter, Jennie Smith, siblings, Donnie Hardin, Dorothy Childress, and Mary Kelly.
Memorial services honoring Betty will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, officiated by Mark Kelly, Leigh Williams, and Cary Palmer. No interment will follow as Betty’s wishes were to be cremated.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the charity, Many Mansions, that supports, lifts, and gives opportunities to single mothers and their children in the North Texas Region. www.manymansions.shurchcenter.com/giving dropdown: Honoring Betty Hardin Smith.
