Alvin Emil Winter, 93, of Whitesboro, Texas was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
Alvin was born on August 9, 1928 in Olivet, South Dakota to Herman Claus and Margaret (Heinsohn) Winter. In 1930 the Winter Family moved to a farm near Boyden, Iowa. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Alvin was a farmer and dairyman on a farm near George, Iowa for many years. In 1982 he moved his family to Whitesboro, Texas. He deeply loved his family, enjoyed playing the one-armed bandits, hanging out with his friends at Whataburger and the donut shop, helping out at Meals on Wheels, telling jokes, farming and tractors. Alvin loved to go dancing, especially to his favorite songs – The Long Black Veil and Waltz Across Texas.
Alvin is lovingly survived by his children, Lisa (Terry) Sharber of Bowie, Texas, Leanna Howard of Whitesboro; son, Larry Alvin (Lisa) Winter of Whitesboro; son, Leland Winter; nine grandchildren, Courtney (Jason) Williams of Whitesboro; Melissa (Zac) Brookshire of Bowie; Stacy Arent of Rhome; Josh (Elizabeth) Winter of the Marine Corp Base, Camp Pendleton; Zach Winter of Denison; Michael Brandom of Whitesboro; Emma Winter of Whitesboro; Miranda McCarrell of Southmayd; Nathan McCarrell of Sadler; nine great-grandchildren, Hunter, Valerie, Hadlee, Lila, Conner, Nate, Emery, Silas and Zachariah, brother, Norven Winter of Boyden, Iowa; sister, Luella Loges of Sheldon, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Alvin was preceded in death by his son, Leslie (Les) Alan Winter; son-in-law, Kenneth Howard, parents, Herman and Margaret Winter, siblings, August Winter, Louise Uilk, Meta Fick, Hilda Uilk, Elsie Fick, Ruben Winter and Gerhardt Winter.
Pallbearers will be Michael Brandom, Zach Winter, Zac Brookshire, Paul Winter, Dennis Loges, Roger Winter and Josh Winter.
Funeral services honoring Alvin will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Meador Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
I’m sorry for the loss of Alvin he was a stuff guy and we had a lot of conversations so. I was praying for God to let him live to be a hundred but God knows best and he gave it all he had.Rest in peace Tin man we will miss u.

We loved getting to know and spend time with Alvin at Meals on Wheels. He always made us laugh at his mischievous stories and antics. The world needs more people like Alvin. He could make us smile and laugh even on dark days. We will miss you,Alvin. Prayers for Larry and his sweet family. .
