Ann Melton Allred, 86, of Whitesboro, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Just Like Home in Whitesboro.
Ann was born on July 10, 1935 on Center St. in Whitesboro to Roy and Ruth (Bridges) Melton. She married Doyce Allred on July 14, 1956 and they were married for 59 years prior to his passing in 2015. Ann was co-owner of the Boot and Saddle Shop in Whitesboro; she and Doyce owned and operated the business for many years within the community that they loved. Together they raised two boys into well respected men. Ann and Doyce for years would go to the Dairy Queen to meet friends for coffee, affectionately becoming known as the King and Queen of DQ in Whitesboro, after its closing, they continued to meet with friends at the donut shop. During their time together Ann and Doyce were instrumental in starting and building up the Whitesboro Riding Club. Ann loved playing softball and over the years spent many hours on the field playing with different teams. She loved to travel, whether it was trips to Southfork, CO., to go hunting with Doyce, trips to New Mexico to spend time with Don and his family, or just local trips around Texas with Mike and his family. Ann was the most wonderful wife, mother, and nanny to her family, but to the rest of Whitesboro that knew her she was the best friend, one you could count on for anything, and to the kids that grew up on Center St. she was your best protector, always watching out for you.
She is survived by her son, Mike Allred and wife, Becky of Whitesboro; son, Don Allred and wife, Kika of Taos; grandchildren, Tanner Allred and wife, China of Sherman; Aaron Allred and granddaughter-in-law, Dayna of Taos; great-grandchildren; Jo Lucia Allred and Aspen Allred of Taos; sister, Dorothy Slaten; brothers, Wayne Melton and Bill Melton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruth Melton, husband, Doyce Allred and seven siblings.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in honor of Ann to either Legacy Pointe Baptist Church or Nelson Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Gene Foster, Marc Richardson, Keary Williams, Gary Grantham, Jimmy Don Neely, and Rick Melton.
Funeral services honoring Ann will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Legacy Pointe Baptist Church in Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Joe Patterson and Rev. Rick Carney. Interment will follow at Nelson Grove Cemetery in Gainesville. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Legacy Pointe.
