Roger Leon Parker, 78, of Gainesville, TX, passed into the arms of his loving Savior, with loved ones waiting at the pearly gates, on September 30, 2020, at his home in Gainesville. Public viewing will be on Friday, October 2, 2020, from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at The Nelson Grove Cemetery with full Military Honors. Bro. Lyndel Lee will be officiating.
Leon was born on August 17, 1942 to C.M. and Leota Mitchell Parker in Walnut Bend, TX. He graduated from Callisburg High School in 1961. He was a veteran in the United States Airforce at Lackland Airforce base in San Antonio, TX. He served in Korea from 1964-1965, where he helped train military police dogs. He achieved Expert Marksman in every weapon issued by the military during his term. He was an Honor guard in Dallas for President John F. Kennedy in 1963. After his service in the U.S. Airforce he helped train drug enforcement dogs in Houston and helped established Harris County Sheriff’s office first canine unit. He later became a butcher by profession and always added a little something extra to your order with his bubbly personality. He married Patsy Melton Parker on November 16th, 1988 in Gainesville, TX. They were happily married for over 30 years. Leon was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He was a member of the Legacy Pointe Baptist Church in Whitesboro.
He is survived by his wife Patsy Parker; daughter Tammy Eilers and husband Joe of Woodbine, son Jeff Parker and wife Amy of Woodbine, daughter Jenny Garner of Woodbine, daughter Misty Noller and husband Nathan of Woodbine; son Bill Payeur and wife Stephanie of Callisburg,
16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Leon is preceded in death by his father C.M. Parker, mother Leota Mitchell Smith, step-father Calvin Smith, brother Ricky Dale Parker, in-laws Billy and Kathleen Melton, brother Gaylon Parker and son Brad Payeur.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Trio Hospice nurses Ronda Baldwin and Kelly Dickson who lovingly cared for Leon during his final days.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Legacy Pointe Baptist Church, P.O. Box 247, Whitesboro, TX 76273.
In support of our local, state, and federal government including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, social distancing and the wearing of masks while attending the funeral services and visitation will be observed.
