November 16, 1925 – January 8, 2011 Margot Rode Bates, â??Margoâ?, 85, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011. Services Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Visitation 12:30 -2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Funeral at 2:00 p.m. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Whitesboro. Margot was born November 16, 1925 in Germany. She met and married George Leon Bates while he was stationed in Germany after the war. She moved to Whitesboro, Texas in 1948 and became a U.S. citizen in 1957. Margot was a member of First United Methodist Church, Whitesboro. She took extreme pride in being a volunteer â??Pink Ladyâ? at Wilson & Jones Hospital for many years. A favorite pastime was to crochet baby caps for newborns at the hospital. She enjoyed doing volunteer work for her church which included helping at â??Your Neighbor’s House.â? She also enjoyed visiting and singing at nursing homes. She loved attending the Whitesboro Peanut Festival and selling tickets for the barbeque at the Methodist Church. She worked in the Linda Jo Shoe Factory in Gainesville, and in later years at several retail establishments in Whitesboro. She was preceded in death by husband George Leon Bates and brother Erwin Rode. Survived by son George â??Manfredâ? Bates and wife Kathy; Grandchildren Kenneth Bates and wife Rachelle; Julie Ware and husband Todd; 4 great-grandchildren and Billie Jean Bates.
