John Wayne Call, 97 passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024 at his home in Gainesville, Texas. Graveside service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Fairview Cemetery pavilion with Dennis Noblett officiating.
John was born June 6, 1927, in Bailey, Texas to Bill & Willie Call. He married Ann Oakley in Fanin County on February 19, 1949. They moved to Grand Prairie in 1951 where he went to work at Chance Vought, later called LTV Aeronautics and retired after 31 years. John enjoyed fishing and camping, leather tooling and woodcraft which he excelled at. After retirement, John and Ann moved to Cedar Creek Lake and enjoyed seven years there. They then moved to Gainesville, Texas in 1989 to be near their daughter, Debbie and grandsons, Clint and Chris Reed. He spent a lot of time in his wood shop creating beautiful pieces for others to enjoy. On a remark made by Ann, he planted hundreds of pines on their three acres. He was a wonderful husband and father, greatly loved and will be missed so much.
John is survived by his son, Jerry Wayne Call (Cheryl) of Duncanville, Texas; daughters, Janet Cole and Debbie Armstrong of Gainesville, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Stalcup of Louisiana, Sopia Lansdell of Arkansas, Nancy Alexander (Donald) of Bonham, Texas, Retha Owens of Bonham and Carolyn Johnson (Jimmie) of Ector.
Preceded in death by wife of seventy years, Ann; sister, Imogene Sells and husband, Shirley; sister, Doris Mackey and husband, Walter; sister, Joyce Murley and husband, Warren; brother, Royce and wife, Sue; brothers-in-law, Clyde Lansdell, Bob Stalcup and Dalton Owens; grandson, Clint Reed.
The family wishes to give special thanks for John’s care by the team of Cooke, Grayson and Fanin Home Hospice; especially Pam Wilson for her tender care of Dad, his wonderful nurse, Rebecca and Dennis Noblett for his spiritual guidance and becoming a dear friend.
