With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful mother Patricia Glee Southerland (McCollum) who gained her angel wings on October 7, 2024, at the age of 77. Surrounded by her loved ones, she was blessed to be able to pass at her home.

Patricia was born on October 19, 1946, in Gainesville, TX to Wylie Frank McCollum and Willie Ada McCollum (Smith). Patricia grew up in Valley View, TX and attended Valley View Schools. She had 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Patricia was married over 50 years to Dennis Ray Southerland. They had 3 children: Joyleen, Brian and Jannet. Patricia worked at Gainesville Memorial Hospital for over 10 years, Weber Aircraft, Key Milling, Matts Wrecker Service and owned Dennis Wrecker Service for over 30 years.

Patricia who was also known as “Trisha” and “Nana” was a woman of great strength, loved everyone and brought laughter to your lives. She never missed an opportunity to crack a joke, even if it was at her expense. She felt it was her duty to take care of and provide for those she loved, often putting herself last. She loved animals, especially her dog Moses “Momo”. She spoiled him rotten; he was her everything. Patricia loved many activities including football (Cowboys), reading, gardening, flowers, cooking, detective shows and crafts. But most of all she enjoyed being Nana to her grandchildren and being a mother.

Patricia will be deeply missed by all that loved her and knew her. Her spirit will live on through the generations of lives she created and the hearts of those she touched. Her last wish was to be brought home from Plano Heart Hospital to pass in her own home, she got that wish. She loved redbirds and said, “every time you see a red bird know that I am with you”.

Patricia is survived by her children, Brian Southerland and girlfriend Mary of Gainesville, TX; Jannet Jackson and husband Jeff Jackson of Gainesville, TX; daughter-in-law Lisa Moellenkamp of Muenster, TX. Grandchildren,  Bo Smith & wife, Saara of Plano, Texas; Raelyn Smith and fiancé Key Luper of Gainesville, TX; J.W. Isaac of Gainesville, TX; Chris Fassler and wife, Katie of Fargo, ND; Josh Fassler of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren Zaida Luper of Gainesville, TX; Anna Fassler of Fargo, ND; Caleb Fassler of Fargo, ND; Emma Fassler of Fargo, ND; Ava Shirley of Gainesville, TX; Audrey Shirley of Gainesville, TX; sister, Helen Muller of Valley View; sister, Jan Miller of Valley View, TX; brother Johnny McCollum and wife Diane of Valley View, TX; brother-in-law Troy Moon of Valley View and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Southerland; daughter, Joyleen Miller-Moellenkamp;  grandchild, Daniel Fassler; father, Wylie McCollum; mother, Ada Smith-McCollum; brother, Billy Earl McCollum; sister-in-law, Joyce McCollum; sister, Wylene McCollum-Potts; brother-in-law, Jimmy Potts; sister, Phyllis McCollum-Moon; brother-in-law, Gary Miller and brother-in-law, Bobby Jo Muller.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of cards and flowers. Please make a donation to your local animal shelter on Patricia’s behalf to honor her love of all animals.
