John Michael (Mike/Bubba) Spurgeon passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and kids on April 20, 2023. He loved the Lord and his family.
John was born to the late James Adolphus and Louella Spurgeon on February 28, 1955, in Gainesville, TX. He attended school at Gainesville High School and joined the United States Marine Corps. After school. John met the love of his life, Gina Reed, they married within a year on June 3, 1977. Shortly after marrying they began their family with oldest son Billy, middle daughter Toni, and youngest daughter Crystal. John loved God, his family, his country, gardening, animals, and wood working in his shop. Family and friends enjoyed spending time with John listening to him tell stories of the many adventures he had. Family and Friends will remember him for his sharp wit, exceptional storytelling, devotion as a husband, father, grandfather, generosity as a friend, and impeccable lawn care. For these reasons and more he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his father, James Adolphus Spurgeon, mother, Louella Spurgeon, brothers, James and Robert Spurgeon, father-in-law, Billy Reed, nephew, Aaron Spurgeon, and grandma, Velma Mayo.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Gina Spurgeon, mother, Doris Reed, son, Billy Spurgeon and wife, Ashley, daughter, Toni Price and husband, Kerry, daughter, Crystal Darrell and husband, Austin, grandchildren, Kaitlyn Harvey, Makayla Spurgeon, John David Spurgeon, Trey Patton, Bailyn Spurgeon, Kimberlyn Spurgeon, Alyceann Spurgeon, Autumn Price, Jameson Michael Darrell, sisters, Debbie Hester, Elaine McCool and husband, Walter, Sonja Vaughn, Janene Spurgeon-Hicks and husband, Norman, Sharon Dettling, Sue Dedek, sister-in-law, Sandy Lytle, as well as countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and countless love ones.
Funeral services honoring John will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Chet Burgess. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
