September 1, 1934 –  January 27, 2016  Verndell Sikes BridgesFuneral services for Verndell “Dell” Martin Sikes Bridges, 81, of Gainesville are set for Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with Rev. Larry Kremlin officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 28th at Meador Funeral Home, Gainesville, Texas. Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Derek Sikes, Collin Sikes, Chance Sikes, Jared Sikes and Jacob Sikes.

Dell died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Gainesville. She was born on September 1, 1934 in Muenster, Texas to Lela Cravens Martin and Vernon Martin.

Dell was a cook for many years at Robert E. Lee Elementary. She also worked at Linda Jo Shoe Company. “Nanny” loved to cook for her family and friends. She also loved listening to Christian music and attending church at Bible Baptist, Fair Avenue Baptist and Calvary Baptist churches for many years.

Dell is survived by her sons, Steve Sikes and his wife Carolyn of Gainesville, Randy Sikes and his wife Donna of Gainesville and Keith Sikes of Yakima, Washington; brothers Dale Martin and Gary Martin and wife Peggy of Gainesville; also grandchildren, Derek Sikes of Gainesville, Megan Sikes of Sanger, Collin Sikes of Ft. Worth, Chance Sikes of San Marcos, Jared and Jacob Sikes of Callisburg and Trenton and Chelsea Sikes of Yakima, Washington as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Boyd Sikes in 1988, husband Harry E. Bridges, Jr. in 2014, sister, Dorothy “Juanita” Cason, brother-in-law, Sid Cason and sister-in-law Pat Martin
