On Thursday, December 5th, 2019, Sue Cummings passed away surrounded by much love and care after a very long struggle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 82. She looked beautiful and skinny which would have made her very happy.

Sue was born on July 20, 1937 in Whitesboro, Texas to John and Mildred Pitts. She was one of seven children, proudly the only redhead in the group. She raised two redheaded daughters as a single mom and provided lovingly for them with sheer determination and a varied and interesting career. Yes, that redheaded gene was one of her many super powers.

After her married life as a rancher with 10,000 head of cattle, she flourished as a dynamic business owner and later in a sales career. She owned and operated K-Bobs Steakhouse in Greenville, TX with her partner and friend Vernon Bryant, Jr.  where she was often told that she “was doing almost as much business as the electric company” by her bankers and was honored as Business Leader of the Year by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. As a sideline during this time, she was honored at the Texas Cattle Feeders Association Convention as one of the largest female cattle feeders in the Southwest. She successfully sold her business and moved to Dallas to be closer to the family she so deeply loved.

Next, she began selling technical computer advertising for Unisphere Publishing with little prior technical knowledge or the ability to efficiently utilize a computer.

Her final career included traveling all over her beloved Texas selling Debit Card Processing services where she met and became best friends with Joel Forrest, who is deeply loved by the family and has been with all of us through every step of this journey with Alzheimer’s. No one could be a more loyal, loving and compassionate friend. Joel truly was the son she never had (and her favorite child).

The dynamic powerhouse and magnetic charmer that Sue embodied was undeniable. She greeted friends and strangers on every flight and at every party or gathering. Many considered her the honorary mayor of any event she was attending. She compelled people with a glass of wine, great compassion and sometimes a little tough love to overcome heartache and strife while sticking loyally with them through big life events. She saved a life that still shines brightly today, Katie Colquitt McCorkle, by thinking quickly, shaking and demanding that life remain during an anaphylaxis episode until the paramedics could take over. She has lived a very successful life by the only measure that matters; she loved big and was deeply loved.

Sue was preceded in death by her father and mother John and Mildred Pitts, and her siblings Jeanette, Jo, Harold, Hanks, Jane and Ann. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne and Stephanie Cummings, her unofficial adopted sons Joel Forrest and Chris Davies, Stephanie’s life partner. In addition, she is survived by nieces and nephews Janice Frech, Karen Brady Bomar, Roxanne Snyder, Sherri Thurman, Laura Rossini, Amy Pitts, Edward Frech, Charles and Brent Snyder, Kyle and John Pitts, Scott, Brad and Doug Dawson, sisters-in-law Lynn Pitts and Wilma Pitts; and brother-in-law Tom Dawson.

It would be very important to her and doubly so for the immediate family to remind all family and friends that you are so very loved and appreciated for the support, love and hugs throughout her life and illness. A special thanks to Roxanne Snyder, Karen Bomar, Kyle Pitts, John, Jenni, Lauren and Jessica Pitts, Sherri, Glenn and Payton Thurman, Nancy Long, and Melissa Hudson for helping during occasional emergencies and big life events. To the Forrest, Colquitt, Bryant and McSpedden family, you are our family and we will always love you.

Finally, it would be impossible not to mention the people that were so kind and loving to her and us in the final days of illness. Honey sends you all a lot of kisses. A special thanks to the staff at Sunrise of Frisco, especially all the angel caretakers including Ramona, Dorothea, Nancy, Jones, Darren (the guys were the ONLY ones she didn’t EVER give a hard time), Sherri, Peddy, Grace, Falacke, the two Tomika’s, Sophie, Anna, Martha, Neha, Risi, Gail, Cheryl, and Mandy. I know I missed some people, but you’re not forgotten.

A special thanks to CarePlus, who sent the hospice team who facilitated that very peaceful ending. Thank you, Tiffany, Antoinette, Jean Claude, Veronica, Amy and Damon, for providing Sue comfort, dignity and care.
