Staff Sergeant John Howard Latham who proudly served for the U.S. Army, age 79, of Collinsville, Texas, passed away April 7, 2025.

Born on January 2, 1946, in Oklahoma, John grew up on the family property helping with the animals and chores, which included many summers bailing hay.  At a very young age he went on to work for his father in the construction business and always loved working with his hands.

After high school John enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years.  During his military career he served in various assignments, including overseas, and was later stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.  He specialized in track vehicle repair for over 19 years and was a machinist for more than 9 years.   He was awarded numerous awards and medals which consisted of the Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon (Numeral 3); National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal (w/4 Bronze Service Stars); Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (w/ Palm); Driver and Mechanic Badge (Mechanic); Expert Badge (Rifle); Army Good Conduct Medal (w/ Silver 1 Loop) and the Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3).

After his military career, John worked as a machinist and a mechanic until he retired. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 25 years, Kerry Jo Latham, whom he met while getting a haircut… a story of love at first sight they both declared and often spoke of.

John is survived by his stepdaughters, Gina Paul of Argyle, TX and Mandy Serna of Whitesboro, TX; five step-granddaughters; Brittany and Mia Paul, Stefani Tucker, and Maddie and Lexi Serna; four step-greatgrandchildren; Carter, Korbyn, Stoney and Lilah.
