September 12, 1928 –  June 29, 2012  WHITESBORO â?? Funeral services for Shelby Eugene â??Geneâ? Alexander, 83, will be held Monday, July 2, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, Texas with Hank Lovejoy and Peter Couser officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. Family visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.He passed away on June 29, 2012 in Whitesboro, Texas.
Gene Alexander was born on September 12, 1928 to Shelby Newton and Etta Lee (Scott) Alexander in Whitesboro, Texas. He married Jennie Grace Earnhart on August 10, 1947 in Howe, Texas. They were married until her passing in 2005. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro and a member of the Texas Baptist Men. He was a family man who enjoyed time with his loved ones. He loved lake outings and took great pleasure in teaching his children and their friends how to water ski. He loved to travel during the summer months. He was a teacher for 9 years at Sherman ISD, Building Trade School. He was in construction and built houses for the largest part of his adult life.
He is survived by his children: Bob Alexander and wife, Vera, of Whitesboro; Sharion Acker and husband, Johnny, of Whitesboro; Marilyn Meals of Castle Rock, CO; Jerry Alexander and wife, Jana, of Coppell; Susie Meals and husband, Donnie, of Whitesboro; his sister, Marie Henderson and husband, J. P., of Whitesboro; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Grace Alexander; his parents: Shelby and Etta Alexander; and a sister and four brothers.
