Samuel James Johnson, Jr., 94, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away on April 14, 2019, at his home in Gainesville, Texas.  Funeral services are to be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 19, 2019, at Meador Funeral Home Chapel.  A visitation is planned for Thursday, April 18, 2019, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Meador Funeral Home of Gainesville, Texas.  Rev. Frank Lorne will be officiating the service.  Interment is to be at Fairview Cemetery beside his wife. Mr. Johnson was born on May 23, 1924, in Gainesville, Texas, to Samuel J. Johnson, Sr. and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Petty Johnson.  He married Ruby Lee Ward on October 5, 1942, in Denison, Texas.  She died on September 3, 2003. He worked as a mechanic before going to work for FEMA in Denton, Texas, where he was employed for eighteen years.  He enjoyed his family, his daily drives around Gainesville and was a Christian.  Mr. Johnson is survived by his son Sterling Johnson and Alpha of Gainesville, Texas; Grandchildren, Patrice LaShun Kemp of Dallas; Cheri Johnson Peoples and Jeff of Arlington; Shani Jani Johnson of Arlington.  Great-grandchildren, Kellin Kemp, Jacoby Overstreet, Cire’ Pinkard, and Darious Russell.  Great-great-grandchildren, Amijourni Kemp Foster, Amir Kemp, Ava Kemp, Zariah Overstreet.  Special caregiver Pam Perez.  Along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby, a infant son, two brothers, 3 sisters and two great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers are Bruce Randele, Ronnie Hubbard, Gene Favor, Wilbur Manuel, Charles Hardin and Mark Thomas.  Honorary Pallbearers are Kellin Kemp, Jacoby Overstreet, Darious Russell, Amir Kemp and Floyd Manuel.
