Roy Lynn Huddleston, 85, of Lake Kiowa, TX died Wednesday.

He was born to the late James Preston and Adell Mae Huddleston, on September 29, 1927 in Knippa, TX. After graduating from high school, he joined the USN in 1945, where he received training at the US Naval Station in San Diego, CA, the US Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA, and as Boat Coxswain. He also attended the Naval Supply Corps School in Athens, GA and the US Navy Petroleum School in San Pedro, CA. He was stationed in the Republic of Vietnam (ICTZ) from 1967-1968 and in Sasebo, Japan from 1970-1975. Out of 30 years of service, he served on 6 ships for a total of 14 years, 3 Afloat staffs, and 10 years of duty in the US. He received the Navy/Marine corps Medal, Bronze Star w Combat V, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation w/ Combat V, 2 Gold Stars, Combat Action, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation w/1 Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct w/3 Stars, American Theatre WW II Asiatic-Pacific Theatre WW II, WW II Victory Medal, National Defense w/ 1 Star, Korean Service w/1 Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service w/ 5 Stars, Philippine Liberation, Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm United Nations, Vietnam Campaign w/ Metal Date.

After his retirement from the US Navy, he started work for Lawrence-Allison, an engineering company based in Houston, TX and Santa Ana, CA. There he served as vice-president and subsequently president.

He married Icey Louise Batson in 1947. In 1979 they bought a house in Lake Kiowa, where he lived surrounded by his family.

Roy was an active member of Collinsville Church of Christ, where he once served as an Elder.

Roy is survived by his wife, Icey, and four children, Bill Huddleston and his wife Tommie of Valencia, CA, Charles Huddleston and his wife Julita of Lake Kiowa, TX, Adell Thomson and her husband Tom of Gainesville, TX, Linda Miyashita of Nagano, Japan. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Net Ollre of Leakey, TX, Ruby Lee Brigman and Verian Bailey both of Uvalde, TX.

A viewing will be held from 4:30 ? 6:00 p.m. Sunday October 14th at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, TX. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday October 15, 2012, at the Collinsville Church of Christ in Collinsville, Texas with Scott Sides officiating assisted by Ricky Patterson. Interment will follow the service at Collinsville Cemetery.
