Richard left his earthly home November 28, 2008 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on July 9, 1942 in Cornish, Oklahoma to Clark and Helen (Cryer) Acox. Richard married Marilyn Harvey on October 15, 1961 in Lamonte, MO. A former police chief, Richard was a member of the Police Chiefâ??s Association, the American Legion, the 13 Area Metro Squad, and the Texas State Police Association.

Richard lived for his family, though he never passed up an opportunity to help anyone in need. He was known for mixing compassion and heart with the authority he commanded in his police work.

His family, though, was at the heart of his very existence. Papa will be loved and missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the rest of their days. Part of him will live on through the hearts and minds of each member of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Acox of Gordonville; two daughters, Tammie Houston of Raymore, MO and Teri Ramirez and husband Al of Gordonville; brother, Jerry Acox of Yukon, OK; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Larue and husband Clark Higgins of Sweet Springs, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Helen Acox; brothers, Charles Acox, Donald Acox and Danny Acox; a sister, Mary Thompson and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers are: Troy Harvey, Steve Harvey, Rick Harvey, Tim Acox, Keith Acox and Chris Ramirez.
