Rev. Wilbur James Vaughan, 85, of Sherman, Texas was called home to heaven on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Wilbur was born on March 4, 1939 in Denton County to Frank and Bessie (Wilson) Vaughan.  He was a graduate of Celina High School.  Wilbur married Barbara Harris on January 18, 1960 and together they raised three children.  He loved the Lord and loved sharing Him with others, this led to a life-long ministry work in Turan, Kansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas and finally back in North Texas.  He previously served on the staff at Grayson Bible Baptist in Sherman and had led the singing at Central Baptist Church in Gainesville for over 20 years.  He enjoyed watching football, he was a big Texas Longhorns fan, gardening and studying the Bible.  His greatest joy was sharing the love of Christ with others and the pride and joy he had in his family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Vaughan of Sherman; daughter, Jana Endler and husband, John of Whitewright; daughter, Jamie Byrd and husband, William of Lebanon, TN.; son, Bobby Vaughan and wife, Paula of Denison, grandchildren, Katelyn, Blake, Ryan, and Anna; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Obadiah, Winnie, Rosie, and Aiden, brother, Jerry Vaughan and wife, Carla of Fort Worth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bessie Vaughan, brother, Frank Vaughan Jr., brother, Gene Vaughan, grandson, Justin Tatum, and four sisters, Ruth, Alta, Beatrice, and Kathlene.

Funeral services honoring Wilbur will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Central Baptist Church in Gainesville, officiated by Rev. Tyler Bittner, Rev. Eddy Johnson, and Rev. Roy Webster.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.  A time of visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.
