January 14, 1938 –  August 6, 2012  WHITESBORO â?? Funeral services for Nelda Lavon Achimon, 74, will be held Friday, August 10, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Mike Bently officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Family visitation will be Thursday, August 9, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.She passed away on August 6, 2012 in Denison, Texas.
Nelda was born on January 14, 1938 to Johnny Monroe and Nola Modell (Herring) Dunnam in Winert, Texas. She married R. L. Achimon on June 7, 1957. They were married until his passing in August 2005. She was a member of the North Union Street Church of Christ for over 50 years. One of her exceptional loves in life was teaching childrenâ??s Bible classes. She worked for the Whitesboro ISD for a total of 20 years throughout two separate periods of employment. She opened her own pre-school then pursued a nursing career for eight years. She later returned to Whitesboro ISD as a teacherâ??s aide.
She is survived by her children: Harold Achimon and wife, Patti, of Collinsville, TX; Sharon Cowger and husband, James, of Whitesboro, TX; and Darrell Achimon of Denton, TX; grandchildren: Courtney Achimon, Jason Achimon, Jennifer Eschenfelder, Jessica Howard, and Alexis Cowger; three great-grandchildren: Luke Howard, Leila Howard and Brayden Achimon; and siblings: Bill Dunnam, Sylvia Goodman, and Glenda Haynes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. L. Achimon; her parents, Johnny and Nola Dunnam; and grandson, Justin Achimon.
Pallbearers will be Jason Achimon, Mark Eschenfelder, Victor Howard, Steve Pinkston, Randy Brooks, Ben Watson, and Jeff Goodman.
