May 10, 1978 –  September 14, 2015  GORDONVILLE-Funeral Services for Mistie Rae Rich, 37, who passed away on September 14, 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina with her family by her side will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Meador Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Henderson. Interment will follow the service at Gordonville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, September 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.She was born to Wendell W. and Zelta A. Rich of Gordonville on May 10, 1978, in Sherman, Texas. She attended grade school in Winston-Salem, NC, middle school in Mayodan, NC and high school at Mc-Micheal High School in Madison, NC. She attended Rockingham Community College in Eden, NC; Grayson County College, Denison, and graduated from Southeastern State Oklahoma University in Durant with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught school at Northwest Florida Ballet Acadamy in Fort Walton Beach for the past 12 years. Mistie loved to travel. She traveled as a teen with Teens Westward Bound, and later as a counselor, covering 26 states in 36 days all over North America. She traveled to Spain while finishing college and traveled to Europe; London, Paris, Edinborough and the Scottish Highland, Dublin, Ireland. She also cruised to the Western Caribbean to Belize, Cozumel, Mexico, Mahogany Bay Rotan Honduras, and Costa Maya, Mexico. Mistie was an accomplished gymnast, winning many trophies, and was the Western North Carolina State Champion in all-around competition. In 2014, Mistie was named “Teacher of the Year” in Florida.
She is survived by her parents, Wendell and Zelta Rich of Gordonville; significant other, Todd Pappenfus; sister, Lisa Rich Hamilton of Smithfield, NC; aunts, Greta Cecil of Sadler and Brenda Dutton of Sherman; cousins, Jay Cecil, Cheryl Kay Burge, Karen Boza, Gary Dutton, Angela Dutton, and several other cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hurshel and Estella Dutton; Welborn and Pauline Rich.
