March 30, 1921 –  June 26, 2012  Graveside services for Maxie Looney McGowan are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30th at Leon Cemetery in Leon, Oklahoma with Rev. Hollis Parsons officiating. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home.
Loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather Maxie McGowan, 91, of Gainesville passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Clyde Cosper State Veteran’s Home in Bonham. He was born March 30, 1921 in Leon, Oklahoma, the son of Samuel Ace and Edna Pearl (Vessell) McGowan. Maxie served in the US Navy during WWII. He had worked in the oilfield as a pumper with Burk Royalty and as a credit manager for Schad and Pulte. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a volunteer with Texas Baptist Men. Maxie was a great fixer-upper and loved to do woodwork. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors of Mr. McGowan include his son and daughter-in-law, M.L. McGowan, Jr. and Cathy of Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Nutt and Jack of Waco, Kathy Ullmann and Wilfred Favors of Gainesville, Jean Helton and John of Gainesville, Judy Price and Bobby of Pilot Point; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Larry Max McGowan and several brothers and sisters.
