July 3, 1920 –  December 24, 2013  Mamie Louella Morris Nichols went to her heavenly home on December 24, 2013 at 12:23 p.m. She was 93 years young. She loved the Lord and her family. Mamie was born on July 3, 1920 in Cooke Co., Texas and spent most of her life in Gainesville. She belonged to the Temple Baptist Church and was a regular member there until illness prevented her attendance. She lived out the two greatest commandments, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” She lived to serve and loved her family to the end. Mamie Lou married Robert Samuel “Bo” or “Shorty” Nichols on December 23, 1938 in Marietta, Love County, Oklahoma. They spent (61) sixty-one years together until his death in September of 1999. They had (5) five children.
She was the daughter of Sarah Jane Walt Morris Beck and George Washington Morris. In the early years she lived on a dairy farm her parents owned and helped to milk cows at the young age of (9) nine years. They later moved to the banks of the Red River where they owned a country store and a ferry. At that time there was no bridge to cross over on. They lived across the road from the store in a dug-out home.

Mamie taught Training Union and Bible School at Calvary Baptist Church when her children were all young and saw them all baptized there. She was an excellent bowler and very faithful to her women’s bowling league. She had many trophies to show for it. She played baseball in an all girls league as a young woman and fully supported her children in their sports activities. Mamie was employed with the GISD when her children were all of school age in order to keep an eye on them. Later she was employed by the Kress Store and Company.

She leaves behind five children, Robert Nichols and wife, Sandra; Sammy Nichols and wife Keleen; and Sue Comer all of Gainesville; a daughter, Patsy Christie and husband, Phil of Dallas and Jane Wagner and husband, Jim of Sanger; and one brother-in-law, Frank Nichols of Baltimore, Maryland. Altogether she had fourteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren and expecting number twenty-seven. She had seven great-great-grandchildren and expecting two more in 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, four brothers , all her aunts and uncles and one granddaughter. There is a reunion in heaven now.

She passed away at Gainesville Health and Rehab Center on O’Neal Street where she had resided for several years. She appreciated all of her caregivers there who were so loving and thoughtful to her and her family.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28th at Temple Baptist Church with Mamie’s grandsons, Jeff Nichols, Shane Nichols, Nick Nichols, Derrell Comer, Warren Christie and Rodney Fuller serving as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will accept visitors at Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home Friday from 6-8 p.m.
