August 28, 1923 –  August 23, 2013  WHITESBORO-Funeral Services for L. J. ?Jay? Turley, 90, will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas. Chaplin Cheri Wallis-Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Whitesboro, Texas. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home.
He passed away Friday, August 23, 2013, at his home in Whitesboro, Texas.

He was born on August 28, 1923, to John and Myrtle Turley in Wellington, Texas, Collinsworth County. He was a long time resident of Amarillo, Texas and was owner/operator of a service station for many years. He was well known for his keen sense of humor and pleasant smile and was loved by all who knew him. Jay was a squad leader in combat infantry, U. S. Army and was recognized for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the US on Luzon, Philippine Islands in 1945. His daring and courageous actions, dependability, and intense devotion to duty, saved the lives of many of his fellow comrades. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He enjoyed watching old western movies and basketball. Jay never had an enemy. He loved his family dearly, and was well known for his sense of humor and always having a good joke to share with everyone. He left a footprint for his sons to follow with his love of family and his great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Turley of Whitesboro; Children; L.J. Turley, Jr. and wife, Anne of Lakewood California; Cherokee Brewer and wife, Sandra of Saint Jo, Texas; Sharoyn Bailey and husband, Lee of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Shelby Fisher of Whitesboro, Texas; 12 Grandchildren; 20 Great- Grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great -Grandchildren; Brother, Roy Lee Turley and wife, Mary of Lockney, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Grandsons will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Myrtle Turley, 3 Brothers; Howard, Sam, and Earl Turley, and Daughter; Beverly Star.
