Katie Bell Dougherty, 93 of Gainesville, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2020.

Visitation will be Monday, October 12, 2020, 6:00-8:00 pm at Meador Funeral Home Chapel, 1204 E. California Street, Gainesville. Funeral service, Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Meador Chapel, interment following at New Rest Haven Cemetery, Gainesville, Texas.  Her son James Dougherty will be officiating the service.

Katie was born on December 9, 1926 to Doffie Dowd Trammell and Molly Bell (Bryant) Trammell in Sivells Bend, Texas.  She married Toney Dee Dougherty on March 7th, 1943 and they were married until he preceded her in death on December 20, 1982.  She was a homemaker, she loved to sew and she made all the clothes for her children. Katie was a fabulous cook. She loved to garden and loved to go rock hunt by the river. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Whitesboro. Katie loved the Lord and shared the gospel with her family and friends. She will be missed by all, whenever her family was leaving, she would always say “Bye Sweetheart”!

She is survived by her son, James Dougherty and wife, Kathy of Greenville, TX; daughter Ruth Gaston of Gainesville; sister, Mary Ellen Suggs of Whitesboro, TX; 9 grandchildren Darren Bishop, Charlene Ali, Delbert Bishop, Jill Wagnon, Andrea Smith, Denise Cameron, Allen Dougherty, Keith Clark and Felicia Gaston; 33 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Toney D. Dougherty, her parents Dowd and Bell Trammell; Sons Toney Jr. and Timothy Dougherty; daughter Eva Bell Bishop; grandchild Derrick Dougherty; great-great grandchild Jacob Wayne Logan; one sister Tommie Harrell and brothers Melvin, William (Teet), Jim Buck and Vernon Trammell.

 

 

 

In support of our local, state, and federal government including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, social distancing and the wearing of masks while attending the funeral services and visitation will be observed.
