October 28, 1933 – March 18, 2017 Funeral services for Katherine Ruth (Tyl) Bush, 83, of Valley View will be held on Friday, March 24th at 2:00 p.m. in the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with Rev. Larry Huffman officiating. Katherine’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Meador Funeral Home. She passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 18, 2017 in Plano with her family at her bedside after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. She will be greatly missed, but the family takes comfort in knowing that she has a perfect body and mind in heaven. There will be a visitation for family and friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Katherine was born on the family farm in Texarkana, Texas on October 28, 1933 to Frank and Philomena (Duyka) Tyl. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Texarkana and attended business college. She married James Bush, Jr. in Texarkana on January 19, 1957. Their 50 year marriage blessed them with 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3-step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. She worked as a secretary at the Denton State School until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Valley View where she and James raised their family. She loved her family and enjoyed blessing them with wonderful homemade meals. Her grandchildren especially loved “Mamaw’s” green beans, mashed potatoes, and sweet tea. She believed almost all recipes should include sugar and bacon grease. Chances are if you saw her she would be drinking a Dr. Pepper. If not, she’d probably ask you to get her one, and she’d say “That’ll be delicious”.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Randy Bush of Sherman, Kenny and Kaye Bush of Edmond, OK, Charlotte Lupkey of Farmington, MO, and Sheila and Joe Odom of Callisburg; grandchildren and spouses, Dusty and Sara Bush of Aledo, Chelsey Bush of Valley View, Whitney and Marc Byler of Edmond, OK, Jacey and Matt Snider of Miami, FL, Ramsey Bush of Plano, Madison Bush of Edmond, OK, Mark and Chelsea Lupkey of Concord, CA, Rebekah Lupkey of Farmington, MO, Brittany and Jason Newton of Roanoke, and Brianne Odom of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Owen Bush, Max, Axel and Ruby Byler, Theo Snider, and Reid Newton; step-grandchildren, Brady and Tenise Blackshear of Sherman, Valerie Blackshear of Whitesboro, and Drew and Mikell Blackshear of Whitesboro; step-great-grandchildren, Tyson Blackshear, Logan Kanaan, Katie Blackshear, Lani Blackshear, Sydney Watson and Quinn Blackshear and sisters, Christine Hobbs of Garland, Julia Zamora of Texarkana, Margarite Zamora of Texarkana and Evelyn Horne of Monroe, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Emil, Jerry, Frankie, Robert and Father Albert Tyl and sister, Helen Tyl Bruce.
