September 4, 1941 –  October 7, 2009  SADLER â?? Karen Rodgers Murrell passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at her home in Sadler, Texas after a brief and unfair fight with cancer. She was 68 years old.
Funeral Services will be held at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. officiated by Bro. Larry Blain of the Southmayd Baptist Church, Bro. Roland Ouellette from East Sherman Baptist Church and Roy Duff. Interment will follow in Sadler Cemetery. Family night will be held from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at the funeral home.

Karen was born on September 4, 1941 in Sadler, Texas to the late Albert and Clay (Hall) Rodgers. She graduated from Sadler High School in 1959. She married Herman E. Murrell in Sadler on July 1, 1970.

She was a devoted Christian and member of the Southmayd Baptist Church. She was an exceptional Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved singing in her church choir and singing with her friends in their Grandmaâ??s Kitchen Band. She also enjoyed performing at the communityâ??s monthly Pickâ??in-and-Grinâ??in shows. She liked to crochet, read books and travel with her husband. She mostly loved spending time with her children and grandkids and playing board games with all of her family.

Karen retired in 1999 after 30 years with the Grayson County Tax Office while serving 13 of those years as the Chief Deputy. After retiring, she helped with city and county elections and served many times as a Democratic poll judge.

She is survived by her husband of the home; a daughter, Patti Sammons and husband, Billy of Sadler, Texas; three sons, Jeffrey Perkins and wife, Sharon of Sadler, Texas, Randy Perkins and wife, Shelley of Leonard, Texas, and Danny Perkins and wife, Karen of Gunter, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; two step-children, Yvonne Murrell of Utica, Ohio, and Keith Murrell of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, James Rodgers and wife, Mary Nell of Whitesboro, Texas; two sisters, Lois Sellers of Sadler, Texas, and Samye Ballard and husband, James of Whitesboro, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold Rodgers and Kenneth Rodgers; and three sisters, Eulene LaPlant, Modene Bowen, and Ruth Snow.

Serving as pallbearers are: Duane Stanford, Rickey Stanley, Doug Rodgers, Jim Jack Rodgers, David Rodgers and Clark Rodgers.
