December 18, 1940 – May 29, 2016 Karen Arlene Melton, affectionately referred to as “Nannie” by many family members, passed away in Collinsville on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the age of 75. The family is carrying out her wishes with a private family “Celebration of Life”. Karen was born to Dan and Marie Farmer on December 18, 1940 in Seminole, OK.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Darla and Royce Melton of Collinsville, Phyllis and Mark Petty of Woodbine, son, Kenneth Melton of Collinsville, and son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Waschika Melton of Little Elm; two sisters, Wanda Tarrant of Whitesboro and Joann Caraway of Woodbine; 6 grandchildren, Jake Melton of Lone Grove, OK, Cody Melton of Wichita Falls, Brian Petty of Denison, Jaden Melton of Little Elm and Meiya and Maiya Melton of Little Elm; and 6 great-grandchildren, Jaxsen, Jude, Skyler, Nash, Nolan and Elijah.
Karen worked at Texas Instruments in Sherman for 21 years and retired in 2000. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing board games at family outings, and being sassy when the opportunity presented itself.
She was a woman of great work ethic and a great role model of self-sacrifice for the sake and love of her family. She was beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Dan and Marie Farmer; sisters, Geraldine Gray and Mary Shugart and brother, Danny Ray Farmer.
