January 18, 1943 –  January 15, 2017  Gainesville resident, John William English passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Renaissance Care Center at the age of seventy-three. He was born January 18, 1943 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to James and Gladys (McQreary) English. John married Barbara Lea Spencer on May 14, 1965. He was an avid fisherman and loved to landscape his yard. John enjoyed and went to EVERY after school activity his grandkids were involved with. He was a friend to all. There wasn’t a place he went that someone didn’t recognize and know him as a friend.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18th at Fairview Cemetery with Jo Myers officiating. Family visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17th at Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara English of Gainesville; sons, Boyd Lane Ellison of Huntington Beach, California, Brian Lee Ellison and wife, Julie of New Orleans, Louisiana and Brett Leon English and wife, Sylvia of Sanger; sister, Nancy Williams of Gainesville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents: daughter, Bonnie Ellison; brother, James English and sister, Joyce Hill.
