April 24, 1923 –  October 8, 2017  Long time Gainesville resident, John Herbert “Herb” Callaway passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the age of ninety-four. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12th at New Rest Haven Cemetery with Rev. Larry Huffman officiating. Family visitation be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home.
Herb Callaway was born April 24, 1923 in Henrietta, Texas, the son of James Henry and Maude (Nesbit) Callaway. He married Muriel V. Owens on May 17, 1947 in Henrietta. Mr. Callaway served in the Army during WWII. He worked for Lone Star Gas in both Abilene and Gainesville, retiring after forty-two years of service. In his retirement years he opened his own lawn mower repair business and operated it out of his home for thirty-two years. Herb was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda of Gainesville; grandchildren, Kevin, Melinda and husband, Ray and Lori and husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren, Katie, Ashley, Bayleigh, Emilee and Kelly and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Johnny; four brothers and one sister.
