April 22, 1943 –  July 30, 2016  Jackie Kay Van Bevers, 73, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, in Sunnyvale, Texas surrounded by her family. Jackie was born on April 22, 1943, to the late Jack and Inez (Midgett) Smith in Collinsville, Texas, the oldest of five children. She graduated from Whitesboro High School as Salutatorian in 1961, and attended Draughon’s Business College in Dallas, Texas. On June 10, 1962, she was united in marriage to John Van Bevers in Whitesboro, Texas. They moved to Mesquite, Texas, where they raised their four children.In 1980, Jackie began a long career with Lab Corp (previously National Health Labs) for 25 years until her retirement in 2005. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. For over a decade, she served as a volunteer in the Camp Fire Girls Organization where she served as a group leader and council member. During her tenure, she made a positive impact on many young girls’ lives, as well as the other volunteers. She was actively involved in her children’s activities and in her spare time, enjoyed reading and traveling.
Jackie is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; daughters, Lisa (Rick) Rose, of Gladewater, Texas and Gretchen Carter of Forney, Texas; sons, David (Priscilla) Van Bevers of Mesquite, Texas and Daryl Van Bevers of Watauga, Texas; grandchildren, Shawn Gregory, Lana (Rose) and Joshua Davis and Jacob Rose, Evan (Martin) and Haylie Carter; Douglas Van Bevers, Katarina and Andrew Savignano and Samantha Van Bevers; great-grandchildren, Landon and Allie Gregory, Henry Davis and Emma Van Bevers; brothers, Danny (Donna), Jimmy (Virginia) and Larry (Teresa) Smith; sister, Annette (Gary) Workman; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Inez Smith, sister, Teresa Smith and great-granddaughter, Ainsley Davis.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Boyd Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesboro, Texas.
